Plumber offered bail for stealing car battery

Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James plumber, who allegedly stole a battery from another man's car, will have his case tried in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday, July 5.

Forty-six-year-old Delroy Woolery, of Lightbody Avenue, Montego Bay, pleaded not guilty to simple larceny, committed against Michael Lyons, when he appeared in court yesterday (June 13). He was offered bail in the sum of $60,000, with three sureties.

Allegations are that, on June 3, Lyons parked his car along Barnett Street, Montego Bay, and went into a bar. Shortly afterward, he heard a loud noise from the direction of his car, and went to investigate.

On reaching his car, Lyons saw that the car's bonnet was open and realised the battery was missing. A report was made to the police. Subsequent investigations led to Woolery's arrest.

Simple larceny

"Is this the first time you have been charged for anything?" Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tai asked Woolery, when the case was mentioned yesterday.

"No, Your Honour," said Woolery.

"What else have you come to court for?" RM Tai asked.

"For simple larceny, one time," Woolery admitted.

Clerk of the court Shelly-Ann Greaves told the court that the case file for Woolery's matter was ready for trial.

"Do you have anybody to bail you?" RM Tai asked Woolery.

"No, I don't have anybody," said Woolery.

"I am still going to offer you bail, in the sum of $60,000, with three sureties. You will report at the Barnett Street Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.," said RM Tai.

"The case will be set for trial on July 5," the magistrate added.
