A musician found himself in hot water on Wednesday after he was hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court to answer to a number of charges ranging from assault to property destruction.

Charged with disorderly conduct, malicious destruction of property, assault at common-law and indecent exposure is Carl Dawkins Jr, who was offered $100,000 bail. He pleaded not guilty.

The Crown is alleging that Dawkins, who was in a relationship with a policewoman, had been abusive and despite the separation of the two, persisted. Dawkins, it is being alleged, tried to strangle the woman and has stalked her in an attempt to convince her of his love.

Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey stated that the charges brought against him were serious and that he should not have been seen anywhere near the woman.

The RM told him that she was not playing, to which he responded neither was he. This only served to annoy the RM, who ordered that he be placed in custody.

When he was brought back to court, Valerie Neita-Robertson who represented the woman, explained to the RM that it appeared that Dawkins was setting the stage for certain things to happen, as the woman carried a gun.

She also suggested that an order should be made to allow Dawkins to see a psychologist as he appeared to have a personality disorder and that reporting and curfew conditions be implemented.

He was subsequently offered bail with reporting conditions and told to return to court on July 17 for trial. He was also sternly warned not to be within 100ft of the complainant and make no attempt to contact her.
