Potential Kidd to rebuild career from scratch

... after falling-out with manager/cousin over money

Dancehall artiste Potential Kidd is ready to restart his career after taking a break from the music industry, following a disagreement with his manager/cousin who he says robbed him of more than $10 million.

In a STAR article published in 2012, Potential Kidd said he performed at several stage shows in the UK, however, he did not receive any money from his manager at the time. He also said several stage shows were booked without his confirmation and money collected in his name, and he in turn had to perform at these events for free in order to protect his reputation.

Potential Kidd is now gearing up to release a new single called Try So Hard, which will explain to his fans why his career dimmed under the watch of his former manager.

"It's about the situation with my cousin and wey she duh mi. She cut wid all a mi money from music, suh is it mi a talk bout inna di song. People already a tell mi sey dem love it and it's an emotional song, and when some people listen to it dem cry because dem cyah believe people who yu close to can be suh wicked. Mi family wey mi love so much tek mi money and not even sey nothing to me. Right now, she put mi back at square one and mi did have di biggest song a Jamaica," Potential Kidd said.

According to the Trench Town-based artiste, he is now trying to find another hit in an attempt to escape poverty.

Drawing board

"People a reach out to mi. Because dem know sey mi is a ghetto youth wey did a try mek life and got robbed. Right now, I'm back to the drawing board starting from scratch again because I lost all my earnings. Show money, dub everything," Potential Kidd said.

The Ya Suh Nice deejay who recently performed at shows in St Lucia, Cayman, Barbados and Trinidad, described his new single, Try So Hard as a reality song that shows critics he has more to offer to the music industry than just winning songs.

"The show at St Lucia pull out about 12,000 persons, so mi have a fan base there. This summer mi a come out fi attack dem, because, from the robbery, mi a play defence, but right now mi have a lot of new songs fi attack the music industry," he said.

Potential Kidd's publicist Terri, told THE STAR that the artiste has been through a lot and deserves a second chance.

"Potential Kidd is a humble person and just never knew much about the business aspect of the music, and so situations can happen. But he shouldn't have to endure the repercussions for life. So most of those persons that were on the Ya Suh Nice bandwagon should rally around and help to make his dream a reality once more," she said.

Potential Kidd currently has songs out like the DJ Smurf-produced Dash It Away, Try So Hard, produced by DJ Lanz, and Ready For Da Loving, produced by Seanizzle.

His publicist, Terri, is also promoting a summer stage show called Reggae to Reggae, which will be held in Portland on June 29.
