Defending champions and favourites Jamalco will face Mico 'A' in today's feature semi-final game of the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA)/Berger Paints Super League at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting at 5:45 p.m. In the second semi-final encounter, former winners Tivoli Gardens 'A' will face the University of the West Indies Pelicans 'A'. For the feature game, both teams are full of confidence. But based on the depth of their squad, the Clarendon-based Jamalco will enter today's encounter as slight favourites. On the other hand, Mico, which includes a number of national Under-21 players, will be looking to upstage their more fancied opponents, who defeated them by more than 10 goals in the preliminary round. Wayne Shaw, manager of Jamalco, who are seeking their third-straight hold on the trophy, said they are not going to take Mico for granted. "We are not going to take them lightly because they are in the top four and therefore that says something about them," said Shaw. "This is a semi-final game and once you lose then you are out and so we're definitely going for the win." He added: "I am confident that we can win ... my team is up for the challenge, and so I am expecting us to repeat as champions of the Super League." Jamalco will be without the services of their inspirational captain Marsha Murphy, who is unavailable for today's game. Shaw stated that Muphy's absence will not seriously affect his team because they have good replacements. "We have good players on our team who can fill the void for Murphy, so her absence will not affect our team in any way," Shaw said. Jamalco will be relying on former national players Elaine Davis, Althea Byfield, Naudia Brown, Sasher-Gay Henry and Nicole Aiken-Pinnock to lead their charge to victory. The Annette Daley-coached Mico will be aiming to reach the final for the first time in their history. Mico will rest their hopes in the hands of national representative Vangalee Williams, along with Jody-Ann Bockle, Shannika Johnson and Keresha Kesna. |
