Accused pleads not guilty to assault

Laughter erupted in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday after an accused man compared the complainant with popular dancehall artiste Bounty Killer.

Thirty-eight-year-old Adrian Christie pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.

The court was told that Christie, who is also accused by the complainant of stealing his bicycle, allegedly used a hammer to hit the elderly complainant on his leg.

Christie, however, refuted the allegations, stating that he acted in self-defence, and that it was the complainant who came after him with the hammer.

Christie told Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, "Your Honour, is him swing after mi wid di hammer, a mussi Bounty Killer father," the courtroom erupted into laughter.

A fingerprint order was made and Christie is to return to court for trial on July 1.
