Bailey

Veteran sprinter Aleen Bailey, former St Jago High School outstanding thrower Kellion Knibb along with former Queen's School sprint hurdler Danielle Williams were in good form on Saturday at the Georgia Technical Invitational meet in Atlanta, recording good wins in their respective events.

Bailey, who has represented the country on numerous occasions at the senior level, showed signs that

she will be competitive once again this season, with a good win in the women's 200m. Bailey raced to victory in the half-lap event in a good 23.03 seconds, to get the better of the United States' Joanna Atkins, who had to settle for second in a time of 23.37 seconds.

Knibb, a first-year student at Florida State University, continued to do well in throwing events with the former Carifta Games representative winning the discus with a throw of 55.68 metres. Earlier, Knibb finished third in the shot put with a heave of 14.68 metres, to round out a productive day for herself.

Williams, who had finished just outside the medals with a fourth-place run in the 100 metres hurdles final at the IAAF World Junior Championships in 2010, continued to show great improvement in the flat 100 metres. Competing for Johnson C Smith University, the former Convent of Mercy (Alpha) athlete, clocked 11.45 seconds to win the women's 100 metres, getting the better of Dezreen Bryant, who was second in 11.54 seconds.

It was also top-three finishes for former Immaculate High hurdler Samantha Elliot and former Kingston College quarter-miler Akino Ming.

Elliot, who now attends Division II outfit, Johnson C Smith University and who was a surprise winner of the 400 metres hurdles event among college athletes at last month's Penn Relays in Philadelphia, continued to show progress in the event, as she clocked 58.67 seconds for a third-place finish.

The event was won by American Dominique Darden in 57.16 seconds.

Ming, who also attends Johnson C Smith University was third in the men's 400 metres in 46.11 seconds, as former NCAA quarter-miler Torrin Lawrence won in a fast 45.33 seconds.
