Grove Farm, St Catherine resident Donovan Stewart, has been charged with the murder of a teacher who was killed on September 29, last year.

Dead is Michael Melbourne, a 41-year-old computer teacher of the Old Harbour High School in the parish.

Stewart, a 28-year-old labourer, was charged by police on Tuesday following a question and answer session. He is booked to appear in the Old Harbour Resident Magistrate's Court today.

Police had reported that Melbourne was driving along Old Harbour Road towards Spanish Town, St Catherine. The police said upon reaching Grove Farm, he reportedly overtook a line of traffic and ended up hitting several persons.

Melbourne, the police said, stopped to render assistance when he was attacked by a mob which beat, stabbed and chopped him to death.

An investigation was launched following which Stewart was arrested and charged.
