A St Catherine businessman accused of fleecing persons out of their monies under the pretence that he could provide them with motor vehicles for sale directly from the wharf, was remanded until May 16 in court yesterday.

Errol Williams from Spanish Town pleaded not guilty to obtaining money by false pretence in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

The Crown is alleging that Williams acquired a total of $ 1,600,000 from two complainants who paid over money to him to purchase cars.

The first complainant reportedly entrusted Williams with $895,000 while the other paid over $705,000.

The prosecution is also alleging that Williams told the complainants that he could secure the select vehicles of their choice from a link he has at the wharf.

The vehicles have been identified as Honda Accords, Honda CR-Vs, BMWs and Toyota Yarises.

It is further being alleged that after final payments were made by the complainants towards the purchases, they had difficulty contacting and locating the accused.

A report was made to the police and checks revealed that he was in the Spanish Town lock-up detained for a similar offence.
