Launtia Cuff, Star Writer
St Elizabeth resident Wayne Lewis, 35, was yesterday remanded when he appeared in the Black River Resident Magistrate's Court on charges of murder, assault and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Lewis was charged after 40-year-old bartender, Ann-Marie Campbell, succumbed to gunshot wounds, following a dispute in a bar in Black River in the parish on April 18. Allegations are that sometime after 7 p.m. Campbell and patrons were dancing and taking photos when Lewis accused Campbell of taking his picture. A dispute developed and a firearm was drawn. Campbell was shot in the right side of the chest. She was rushed to the Black River Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries four days later. Lewis returns to the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate Court on May 30. |
