Tissue still absent after scare
SHELDON WILLIAMS, Staff Reporter

Some persons who are dependent on public restrooms to relieve themselves say they are being gravely inconvenienced because of the noticeable absence of toilet papers and hand towels in these facilities in recent days.

The concerned bathroom-goers have blamed the absence of the precious commodity on the uncertainty surrounding which toilet rolls are safe for use following reports that some are unsafe.

"Facilities managers say since the toilet paper issue come up their companies using less tissue. People stop using tissue in public bathrooms because they don't know which brand they are," a source who did not want to be named said.

Our STAR team visited three conveniently-located restrooms throughout the Corporate Area to investigate and only one of those visited was equipped with toilet paper.

Our visit to the restrooms at the Emancipation Park in New Kingston revealed that their dispensers were fully stocked with tissues in abundance.

However, inspections of the bathrooms in the Half-Way Tree Transport Centre and the Pavillion Mall yielded other results. Hand towel and toilet paper dispensers were bare forcing users to improvise. The dispensers in the stalls were also empty.

Director of Communications at the Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC) Latoya Halstead, said she was unaware of the claim.

"First, we have to establish who is in charge of the public restrooms, and two if they had indeed removed them, what's the rationale behind it?" she said.
