A 26-year-old man from Clarendon has been named as a suspect in the murder of Constable Michael Townsend.

The police have identified the suspect as 26-year-old Lance Simpson of Effortville in May Pen.

He is of dark complexion, slim build and about 172 centimetres (5 feet 8 inches) tall.

The police have also listed two others as persons of interest.

The persons of interest are known only as 'Dada' and 'Spent Shell'.

Both men are being asked to report to the May Pen Police Station immediately.

Commissioner of Police Owen Ellington is advising all members to take special care to protect themselves when off duty.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Simpson, 'Dada' and 'Spent Shell' is being asked to contact the May Pen police at 902-9925, police emergency 119, Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest police station.

Constable Townsend, who worked in Junction, St Elizabeth, was killed in Effortville on Sunday.
