Rasbert Turner, Star Writer A man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death, was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 yesterday. He is Wayne Green, a 32-year-old painter of Tredegar Park in St Catherine. Green is charged with the death of Alifia Carney, a 35-year-old labourer of Sydenham in the parish. When the matter came up before the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court, Green's attorney Lancelot Clarke Jr. made a successful bail application. He told the court that his client has been languishing in custody for more than a year. The lawyer said Green is a candidate for bail and will prove his innocence. Resident Magistrate Vaughn Smith then granted bail on condition that Green return to court September 19. Allegation are that on April 24, last year, Green went to the home of the now deceased. He is said to have made certain advances which was spurned by Carney. A knife was reportedly used to stab the woman repeatedly. She died on the spot. Green is said to have used the same knife to inflict a wound to his body. Investigation by Detective Constable Kevin Garnet resulted in Green being charged with murder. He has made numerous court appearances and have maintain his innocence. |
