Diandra Grandison, Star Writer
Principal of Calabar High School, Albert Corcho, told THE WEEKEND STAR that the school has yet to undertake disciplinary action against the students who were allegedly involved in Monday's stabbing and robbing of a JUTC bus driver, due to delays in viewing the footage by the police. According to Corcho, he has yet to view the footage of the incident, which was reportedly caught on the bus' camera. "We still have not seen the video, I heard that it is now a court matter and that the tape will be used as evidence, so I heard that is a part of the delay," he told THE WEEKEND STAR. Corcho said the footage is a very crucial piece of evidence as some of the accused boys are denying the allegations. footage needed "There were about 40 or 50 boys on the bus, so the footage is necessary to find those who were directly involved," he said. "Although during our investigations three boys have admitted they were directly involved, others are denying it, so the footage is needed." When THE WEEKEND STAR inquired about the form in which disciplinary action will be meted, the school principal stated, "At Calabar, we have various offences and sanctions to deal with these offences, but I cannot give a statement to the press without informing the parents first". Four students were charged on Tuesday for stabbing and robbing a 46-year-old JUTC bus driver, after they attacked him for refusing to refund their fares when they were asked to leave the bus after meddling with its emergency exit. The schoolboys were charged with wounding, assault occasioning bodily harm and simple larceny. |
