T&T manager expects better show

Trinidad and Tobago's cricket manager, Omar Khan, is banking on an improved performance from his team when they oppose favourites Jamaica in a West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Four-Day semi-final at Sabina Park tomorrow at 10 a.m.

The Trinidadians were whipped by Jamaica in the preliminary stage of the competition but now Khan expects both the young members of the team and the seasoned players to step up their performance.

"The good thing about it is that we have been here a couple weeks ago and played in the preliminary round. We didn't win the game, as we were soundly beaten by Jamaica. But we feel that this time around we are in a better position in terms of knowing the conditions (at Sabina Park)," Khan told STAR Sports on arrival at the Norman Manley International Airport yesterday.

"We have some younger players who we expect will show the application and mental toughness. We have young Jeremy Solozano; he is 17 years old, from the Under-19 team. He will be opening the batting. There is also young Stephen Katwaroo, a wicketkeeper, who represented the West Indies Under-19s, and Akeal Hosein, who also represented the West Indies Under-19s. Those are the three youngsters in the team, and together with Kjorn Ottley we have a group of youngsters, along with experienced players like Denesh Ramdin, Lendl Simmons, Jason Mohammed and Rayad Emrit," Khan said.

The full T&T squad is: Denesh Ramdin (captain), Lendl Simmons, Jeremy Solozano, Jason Mohammed, Stephen Katwaroo, Rayad Emrit, Akeal Hosein, Imran Khan, Yannic Cariah, Amit Jaggernauth, Shannon Gabriel, Kjorn Ottley and Marlon Richards.

The officials for tomorrow's match are umpires Gregory Brathwaite, Nigel Duguid, reserve umpire Verdayne Smith and match referee Donovan Hayles.
