Chief executive officer of the Culture, Health, Arts, Sports and Education (CHASE) Fund, William 'Billy' Heaven, is to throw his hat in the ring for president of the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) later this year.

The current head of the JCA Finance and Audit Committee told STAR Sports yesterday that he has been approached by several persons, and after much deliberation has decided to seek the top cricket post.

"Yes, I can confirm. I have an interest in being the president of Jamaica Cricket Association," said Heaven.

"A lot of people have approached me and asked me to run and lead the organisation with a view of changing the fortunes of the sport locally.

"I have since looked into the matter, and believe that I could make a difference, and over the next few weeks will be putting in place a team," he added.

Heaven, who is also a former head of the National Development Foundation of Jamaica, is expected to face off with incumbent Lyndel 'Muddy' Wright, who was elected two years ago.

It is understood that Heaven has the support of a number of West Indies players and JCA board and executive members.

These include Courtney Walsh, Wavell Hinds and Darren Powell, as well as incumbent second vice-president, Dr Donovan Bennett.

STAR Sports also understands that Jamaica Money Market Brokers director Wayne Sutherland will a member of Heaven's team.
