The Corey Bennett-coached Hydel High are still celebrating after winning the Small Schools boys' sprint relay on their first appearance at the prestigious Penn Relays. Hydel won the event in in 41.22 seconds ahead of St Jago High, 41.39 while Ardenne High were fourth in 41.61 and Garvey Maceo, fifth in 42.04. The Hydel team, in running order, was Romario Clarke, Hakeem Francis, Aubrey Allen and Omari McDonald. "I am in shock right now as we have not run as a team all season and we did not get a chance to warm up properly as you know it was the first time here. First, I would like to give God thanks for this one as it was unbelievable, and I am happy for the boys and the school," said Bennett. "We believe in what we do and like any other team we have four runners, and once you put in the hard work and believe in God anything is possible," he added. Bennett had a feeling of real relief when he saw his anchor leg runner passing the finishing line in first position as he entered the race with some injury concerns. "My anchor leg runner had a slight hamstring strain and I was praying for him that he would finish as he could have stopped any minute. When I saw him in front I was frozen on the spot as I could not believe," said Bennett who also had high praise for the entire Hydel family including president Hyacinth Bennett, principal Samara Salmon and his entire coaching staff. |
