He may have been a last-minute addition but American sprinting star Tyson Gay is looking forward to competing at Saturday's Jamaica International Invitational meet.

Gay, the fastest American and joint second fastest man in history with a 100m personal best of 9.69 seconds, will line up in the 100m, three years since his last appearance at the meet, when he competed in the 400m, winning in a personal best 44.89.

The 2007 IAAF World Championships double sprint champion is expected to face off with IAAF World Indoor silver and two-time Olympic 4x100m relay gold medallist Nesta Carter, London Olympics 4x100m relay gold medallist and fast-rising Jamaican sprinter Kemar Bailey-Cole, Commonwealth champion and national 60m record holder Lerone Clarke, American hope Ryan Bailey and 2010 World Indoor bronze medallist Daniel Bailey from Antigua and Barbuda.

Gay told STAR Sports said that he was looking forward to returning to the island as he gets ready to shift gears on the back of a solid early season with the Diamond League and US trials on the horizon.

"My training and my local early season shake out races have gone pretty good. Before I line up in Diamond League and USA Championship events, I decided to test myself a little bit," Gay told STAR Sports.

"The Jamaica Invitational is a good place for this. Great event, good competition, knowledgeable fans and an easy flight for me from Florida," he added.

The invitational, which falls in the IAAF's World Challenge series, has suffered a few setbacks; struggling like most sporting events to attract the same level of corporate sponsorship of years gone by, while recent high-profile withdrawals have further added to the challenges faced by organisers.

Double Olympic champion and world 100m and 200m champion Usain Bolt was yesterday forced to pull the plug on his participation at the 10th staging of the meet, while his training partner and World 100m champion Yohan Blake, who is currently sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury at the UTech Classic on April 13, is also missing.
