Cops charge principal

Principal of the St Catherine-based Jonathan Grant High School, Dr Oneil Ankle, is to return to the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on charges of assault and malicious destruction of property.

Ankle, who is accused of assaulting a cameraman who works with a local television station, pleaded not guilty. He was ordered fingerprinted and is bound over to return on June 18.

Allegations outlined by clerk of courts Nicole Kellier are that on Monday, September 24, the cameraman went to the school and began recording students being locked out of the institution, when he was approached by Ankle.

The court heard that the cameraman was shoved resulting in damages to his video camera lens.

The complainant also suffered injuries to his face in the process, the court further heard.

A report was made to the Spanish Town police which led to Ankle been summoned to court.

Attorney-at-law Lancelot Clarke Jr is watching proceedings on behalf of the complainant.
