|||||
Students and teachers of the Point Hill Primary School in St Catherine were grief-stricken yesterday following the reported suicide of a sixth grader. Dead is Sheneka Dixon, 12, from Pusey Hill district in Point Hill. "We have informed the ministry and counselling is being offered as we speak. It is a very sad situation," principal Roy John-Keith said. He said that Dixon was a good student who recently did the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT). When The Star visited the scene, scores of residents converged. "I was on the road and when mi come back mi hear dat mi granddaughter killed herself," Norma Belone said in between sobs. Police reports are that about 1 p.m., Dixon's body was found hanging from a piece of rope attached to a mango tree near her home. The death has also plunged the community into mourning. Many relatives and friends described Dixon as quiet and bright. Further investigations are being conducted by the police to ascertain the reasons why Dixon may have ended her life. - R.T. |
