Mello Vibes maintains good reputation
CURTIS CAMPBELL, STAR Writer

Patrons turned out early to Campari Mello Vibes on Saturday, and luckily so because there were no low points in the old-school event.

DJs Sniper Bling and DJ Marvin were in control of the wheels of steel and they did not disappoint, as each selection fell on receptive ears.

The night was cool, and even though the venue was filled with patrons, it was not chaotic to move from one place to another. There was ample space for dancing, and the only thing that lingered without moving to the sound of the music was the smell of jerk chicken in the air.

This was the same venue used to host Bacchanal only weeks ago, and it appeared that the carnival spirit never left the area, because when DJ Marvin selected songs like Ring Road and Nanny Wine, patrons could not contain themselves.

"I wanna see all di people put your hands up if you are here to have a good time," the DJ bellowed and went on to play Rock the Boat.

Mello Vibes had a fairly mixed audience, but the DJ still targeted the older women, taunting them in the process, by referring to some of them as cougars.

"I wanna see my cougar ladies start wine," and played Feeling Horny by Fab 5.

dancehall enthusiasts

The classic Mud Up rhythm never ceases to please authentic dancehall enthusiasts, and at the sound of Super Cat's voice, patrons pranced in their spaces while echoing verbal shots in classic Jamaican style.

Kool FM's Crazy Chris took over at 1 a.m., in a rather unconventional fashion. Instead of the contemporary way of bringing the music to a halt and announcing the next DJ, while instruments are being switched over each other on stage, the organisers managed to eliminate this chaotic display from Mello Vibes. And if one wasn't looking directly on the stage, it would not have been noticeable that a different DJ was playing because the music was played consistently even through the change over.

Crazy Chris played songs like Girls Just Wanna Have Fun among other popular classic pop songs. However, he, too, got into the soca fever, and after paying respect to the independent ladies, he went for soca songs like Hold Him Down, Love A Come Dung and Guh Dung.

Patrons were still enjoying the vibe when The STAR exited the venue just before 2 a.m.
