Tongues have been wagging in the community of Chapelton, Clarendon, after news broke that a teenager allegedly robbed her mother-in-law of almost $150,000. Information reaching THE STAR is that the 17-year old was taken in by the mother-in-law after she was reportedly kicked out of her parent's home after becoming pregnant for the woman's 19-year-son. The couple's child is now two months old. THE STAR was told that the mother-in-law, who is also the clerk at a church in the area, reportedly went to the bank recently to make a withdrawal but was shocked when the teller told her that there was no money in the account. According to a family friend, "She said 'that couldn't be' because she has over $150,000 in there and is the church money. She said the teller came back with three cheques which had her daughter-in-law's name on it, she was shocked and the police were called in and the girl arrested". The family friend added, "The girl stole the cheque book and went to a business place in the area and got it changed." The Chapelton police have confirmed the incident. According to a police source, "the issue was resolved through mediation as the woman didn't want to press any charges". Residents told THE STAR that to their surprise, the girl is still living at the woman's house despite her misdeed. A resident told THE STAR, "No man, she did affi guh leave enuh, couldn't stay by me at all, caz if she cudda teef from me, what's to stop her from killing me to?" A source close to the family told THE STAR that the money was reportedly repaid to the church's account by the teen's mother and her babyfather. |
