Jamaica stand-in captain David Bernard Jr is hoping for a good start from young batsmen André McCarty and Jermaine Blackwood heading into today's second day of their rescheduled Regional Four-day tournament encounter at Sabina Park. McCarthy and Blackwood, who have shown signs of promise this season, are not out on one and naught, respectively, after Jamaica stumbled to 62 for four in chase of the CCC's first innings total of 150. "We have not replied well so far, but hopefully we can get it right tomorrow starting with McCarthy and Blackwood," said Benard Jr. targeting first innings "We just need to get some partnerships and look to build from there by first targeting first innings, and then look to post a good enough lead," he added Bernard Jr is standing in for regular captain Tamar Lambert, who along with four other players were either rested or dropped for the contest. The other players that have been given a rest are Danza Hyatt, Andrew Richardson and Odean Brown, while Nkrumah Bonner has been dropped. Jamaica were led in the field by fast bowlers, rookie Brian Buchanan, and Sheldon Cotterrell. Producing in-and-out swingers, Buchanan ended with three for 36, while Cotterrell, who bowled with characteristic pace and aggression, finished with three for 52. Nikita Miller, two for 34, and debutant off-spinner Jamie Merchant, two for five, were the other bowlers to get among the wickets. Long-standing captain Floyd Reifer, in the meantime, top scored for the visitors with 62, Shacoya Thomas, 35, and Raymon Reifer, 21, being the next best. Opener Brenton Parchment, 32, has made the most runs thus far with his partner Zeniffe Fowler, Simon Jackson and night-watchman Buchanan falling for one, 15 and naught, respectively. The match is of academic interest given that Jamaica have qualified for the semi-finals, and the CCC is out of contention. |
