Forbes gets three-month ban |
|||||
Waulgrovians' Simone Forbes - File Former Sunshine Girls captain, Simone Forbes, was slapped with a three-month suspension by the Jamaica Netball Association's (JNA) disciplinary committee yesterday. Forbes, who is one of the most decorated players in the sport locally, was found guilty of breaching the JNA's Open League rules and regulations, which state that indecent language is prohibited within the precincts of the playing area. Consequently, the disciplinary committee recommended to the JNA Council that Forbes be suspended from all JNA-sanctioned events for a period of not less than three months, effective April 12. In a release yesterday, the JNA disciplinary committee stated, "Indecent language constitutes verbal abuse. Players, team officials and team members who use indecent language during games will be disciplined accordingly." The incident involving Forbes took place during the JNA Open League match between Waulgrovian 'A' and Tivoli 'A' on February 7, 2013. The release added that Forbes did not make herself available after being invited on three separate occasions to appear before the committee. This is the second time in recent years that Forbes is being hit with a three-month ban. In 2011, she was suspended by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission for three months', after she tested positive for a prohibited substance. Meanwhile, Pembroke Hall and Drewsland Netball Clubs have been suspended from participation in all events sanctioned by the JNA for a period of six months from February 24, 2013. The JNA's disciplinary committee, which met on April 11, 2013, reviewed the reports submitted by match officials and the Drewsland team manager, as well as statements from some of the players who were involved in the offending incident, which took place on February 24, 2013, in the JNA Open league game between Pembroke Hall and Drewsland. The disciplinary committee found that the Pembroke Hall and Drewsland teams were in breach of the section of the Rules and Regulations of the JNA Open League which states that, "Physical abuse by players, coaches, team officials, team members or umpires is prohibited. All persons involved in such acts will be suspended immediately and the matter referred to the disciplinary committee for further action. If such persons are found guilty of physical abuse, they will be expelled from the association." However, the disciplinary committee said that it did not think that the actions of the two teams warranted expulsion and was instead recommending that the teams be suspended and that they provide the JNA Council with a written apology before being allowed to play again in any JNA-sanctioned competition. |
