Robbery suspect remanded

A man accused of robbing a woman of her purse was ordered remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Charged with larceny from the person and assaulting a female is Paul McFarlane.

The court heard that on April 5, the complainant was walking with her handbag near the Nelson Mandela Park, St Andrew, when she felt the accused man take something from her bag as the outside pocket had been opened.

She followed McFarlane into a bus and demanded that he returned her purse. He eventually got up and left the bus, leaving the complainant's purse behind on an adjacent seat.

When the complainant attempted to bar him from exiting the bus, McFarlane pushed her causing her to fall on a woman. She chased him and alerted a police officer who subsequently apprehended him.

McFarlane pleaded not guilty to the matter despite repeatedly being asked if he committed same.

Interestingly, he has been brought to court on a number of other charges in the past including larceny. He was subsequently remanded until May 1.
