Mention date set for illegal cigarette holder

A mention date of May 21 was set in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court in a matter involving a man who was found in possession of 16 packs of cigarettes at his shop.

Charged with being in possession of uncustomed goods is Tennayson Sinclair.

The court heard that on the day Sinclair was discovered with these goods, he was inside his shop when police officers entered and began looking around.

The 16 packs of cigarettes were found in a corner of the shop and Sinclair told the police that he was never selling them, but used them for his smoking pleasure. He also told Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey this.

The RM subsequently pressed Sinclair on how he came to be in possession of these items, to which he responded that he had a friend who was on the farm work programme who took them for him.

He also told the RM that at no point was he selling them and merely used them for smoking.

The matter was subsequently set for mention in late May.
