NWA repairs Sandy Gully drainage

The National Works Agency (NWA) has intensified its efforts to complete critical repairs along sections of the Sandy Gully drainage network before the start of the hurricane season in June.

Manager of Communications and Customer Services at the NWA, Stephen Shaw, in a release, says just over $2.5 billion is being spent during Phases II and III of the programme to repair some 24 wall sections and inverts.

The NWA spokesman says that among the gullies being repaired are the Jew Gully near Molynes and Waltham Park roads, Shoemaker Gully near South Avenue and Holborn Road, both of which are 90 per cent complete. He says work continues on the Sandy Park Gully which is 80 per cent complete.

Areas where works have been completed include Upper Benson and Charlton which form part of the Sandy Gully; Grants Pen near to MegaMart and Cassia Park Gully near Red Hills Road.

Shaw says that the overall repairs to walls and inverts are between 65 and 85 per cent complete, and barring any unforeseen intervention by the weather, these projects are expected to be completed by the end of May.

The Sandy Gully drainage network construction and rehabilitation project is funded by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Petro Caribe Fund.
