Jamaica's Reggae Boyz will be keeping a close eye on the progress of talented midfielder Jermaine Johnson as the player is reported to have suffered a hamstring injury at the weekend.

Johnson, who plies his trade for English Championship division club Sheffield Wednesday, was forced to abandon the pitch after just 28 minutes of play on Saturday. The club, hovering just above the relegation zone, eventually played their way to a hard-fought draw. With the player in red-hot form in recent games, netting four times in his last six appearances, the Sheffield staff have been working feverishly to get the player back into shape. However, the player is likely to miss the club's remaining two games of the season against Peterborough United and Middlesbrough.

"JJ is a great impact player who can make things happen. He has been superb. It would be a terrible blow for him and the team if he doesn't play again this season. He has been one of our main players and we would miss him but we have to move on," Sheffield goalkeeper Chris Kirkland told UK publication The Star (http://www.thestar.co.uk).

Depending on the grade hamstring injury, Johnson could, in the worst case scenario, be out for at least a few weeks, which could also be bad news for the national team. The Boyz would certainly be hoping to have Johnson 100 per cent for a stretch of three crucial CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers against Mexico, United States and Honduras on June 4, 7 and 11, respectively.

The wily player was influential in the team's first two games, as a starter against Mexico, in a historic draw at the Azteca Stadium, and coming off the bench against Panama at the National Stadium. The Reggae Boyz are currently at the bottom of the six-team standing on two points, with a group that also includes Costa Rica.
