A complainant demanded $800,000 in damages after he allegedly broke his right foot during a fight which, according to him hindered him from earning a living. Kevin Mullings, who is accused of breaking the complainant's leg, was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday. The court was told that Mullings and the complainant were engaged in a heated argument, which escalated into a fight, which resulted in the complainant falling and injuring his leg. But things got very heated when Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey asked the complainant to instruct her on how to serve justice on his behalf, to which he responded "Your Honour, is some money mi want." When he was informed by RM Pusey that "This isn't a moneymaking court," the complainant ungraciously replied "Suh den how much yuh think mi fi get after mi affi stop work." The comment earned the complainant a reprimand from an attorney. Mullings was instructed by RM Pusey to pay $10,000 or spend six months in prison. |
