Five persons were taken into custody yesterday by investigators attached to The Flying Squad in connection with last week's robbery at The Swiss Stores Limited in downtown Kingston. Head of The Flying Squad, Senior Superintendent(SSP) Corwall 'Bigga' Ford also told THE STAR that 13 rolex watches were recovered and a large quantity of cash. At least $500,000 was recovered in local currency and approximately US$150,000 ($15 million). Four firearms were also seized. The five were reportedly picked up in an early morning operation by the cops in St Catherine and Barbican, St Andrew. SSP Ford lauded the efforts of the cops who participated in the operation. "I want to commend my staff," he said. THE STAR reported last Wednesday that a gunman carried out a brazen daylight robbery at the store making off with millions of dollars worth of Rolex watches among other valuable items. It was reported that a man who visited the Harbour Street location earlier in the day, returned about 3:30 p.m., entered the establishment and proceeded to carry out the robbery. Our news team was told that the encounter lasted for three minutes and that the robber then made a hasty retreat. Reports were that at least 16 high-end watches were stolen, valued at over $6 million.
