Diandra Grandison, Star Writer
Forty-two-year-old Chris Jackson* called our office, desperate to appease his mind as he thinks his former lover is giving him a child that is not his. According to Chris, he and 37-years-old Leona Evanswho are both from a Portmore, St Catherine, address met at his former workplace when he was in his teens. Jackson told THE STAR that although they were not intimate, they were very 'familiar,' but lost contact and reconnected in 2008, and it was then their relationship blossomed. Jackson: "I knew her from I was 17 years old, she had a sister who worked where I was working at the time, and she used to come visit. We used to go out on company trips and tings like that, saw her again years later, and in 2008 she moved in with me at my family house." Jackson told THE STAR that throughout their relationship he always suspected her of being unfaithful, and that is why he doubts the paternity of Leona's seven-month-old baby girl. Jackson told THE STAR that on multiple occasions she lied to him about her whereabouts. Jackson: "I remember one night she asked me to take her to church but I was cooking, so I gave her the cab fare to go. I went to church to pick her up, when I went she wasn't there. I asked the care-taker if him see her and he said no, I called her phone and she didn't answer." He also shared another instant when she lied about her whereabouts. Jackson: "I went out one night, came home, she wasn't there, called her she said she was by her house. I went over there and she wasn't at the house, so I called her and she said she was there. But she didn't know that I was at the house looking for her." He continued: "She consistently lied to me, so that broke up the relationship." Jackson was also quick to add that what solidified his doubts about the child's paternity was her reaction to an argument they had when she was three months pregnant. Jackson: "I was accusing her of being unfaithful and she up and left that night, she never called back or try to reconcile with me, and so we went our separate ways. That's why I believe she had her doubts so that's why she went away." But Evans had a completely different tale as to what happened between the couple. Evans: "He's a very jealous person. He doesn't trust anyone, I don't think he even trusts himself." Evans told THE STAR that it was Jackson who chased her away. Evans: "I went by his house and he asked me for sex, and I said to him 'as you want something I give you and when I want, you don't give me', so I told him no, and he said I should get up out of his bed and come out, so I did." She continued: "From I've been with Chris, I've never been with anyone else in my life. Our relationship had its ups and downs but things started to get sour when he found out I was pregnant." When THE STAR inquired who the child resembles: Evans: "Everybody in his family seh the baby looks like him. Is only him one seh she don't resemble him." Jackson: "Me don't see the resemblance." It was revealed to THE STAR that the child is registered in Jackson's name, although according to him, he was tricked into signing the document. Jackson: "I wasn't going to sign the registration paper, is because she seh that they wouldn't let her leave the hospital without me signing it that's why I went down there." But Evans refutes saying, "He didn't hesitate to come and sign the papers, the child is registered in his name." When THE STAR asked Jackson what he wants the result to be: Jackson: "If is really my child, I want to be a part of her life and take care of her, I grew up without a father and I wouldn't want that for any child." Evans told THE STAR that "I don't have anything to lose, I am not lying, I just want him to take care of his child."
