Four Jamaicans were hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday after they were accosted by United States coast guards in international waters, allegedly trafficking a large quantity of marijuana.

Oliver Foster, 49, from St Elizabeth; Andrew Folkes, 40; Addis Longman, 38, and Charles Rose, 36, both from Westmoreland are all charged with trafficking, possession, dealing, exporting and conspiracy to exporting a total of 6, 680 pounds of marijuana.

The court heard that on February 15, 2013, the men along with an American accomplice were spotted aboard a 33 feet vessel, and on seeing the US coast guards threw the substance overboard.

The drug was later retrieved. The four Jamaicans, after being briefly detained, were handed over to the Jamaica authorities. The court was also told that the coast guards also took some of the drug for testing.

The lawyer representing the Jamaicans refuted allegations that drug was on the boat, saying his clients were simply deep sea fishing.

He said, "This is simply about the mighty Americans, and their bull-like attitude."

Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey cautioned the attorney saying, "Ganja is not a sea weed, so from it out there a must somebody took it there."

All four men were remanded to return on April 30.
