A 32-year-old man was ordered by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey to "Find yourself another girl", after he and his former girlfriend were involved in an altercation, which resulted in him destroying a part of a washing machine. Charged with malicious destruction of property and assault occasioning bodily harm is Kayon Gordon. The court heard that Gordon gave the complainant, his former girlfriend of nine months, money to go downtown Kingston to purchase a washing machine. The woman allegedly purchased the appliance in her name and when Gordon enquired of the remainder of the money she could not account for it. Gordon said he gave her a card and she spent more than the money needed to purchase the machine. She, however, accused Gordon of spending a significant amount of money from the same card. It was soon revealed that Gordon destroyed the lid of the washing machine and a blender, but it was discovered that the appliance was given to his brother to use, and at that point it was destroyed. Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey subsequently told Gordon to listen to the words of Jerry Butler's song and Find Yourself Another Girl ... save your love and kisses just for you". He was ordered to pay $24,500 on his return to court on April 19, at which point he is to answer to the assault charge. |
