A man who has been in a relationship with his woman for two years and two months and who is alleged to have punched her, is to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on May 16 for trial.

Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Marlon Gordon, who was ordered to give his fingerprints to the police.

The court heard that on the day of the incident in question, Gordon assaulted the woman by using his fist to punch her. Gordon denied punching her but instead stated that he had merely shaken her, causing her to fall to the ground. He stated that whenever his phone rang, she wanted to know who was calling.

Gordon told Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey that "she acted up and swung her hand, and I held her and she slipped and fell and hit her face".

It was revealed that the woman sustained swellings to the right side of her face and shoulder, which the senior RM acknowledged were injuries consistent with a fall.

However, the woman denied falling and adamantly stated that she had been punched.

The matter was subsequently set for May 16.
