There was high drama in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday after a woman and her child's father's lover reportedly clashed, resulting in the babymother answering to an assault charge.

The court was told that Sheneke Hunter used a piece of iron to hit the complainant on her head.

It was reported that the two women began fighting after it was revealed that Hunter was still engaged in a physical relationship with her child's father.

The complainant said, "I was overseas for two weeks, and when I come back, I see a bag with hair gel on the dresser, so I asked my boyfriend's daughter whose gel it is, and she said, 'my mother'".

But Hunter, who pleaded guilty, told the court that she had simply asked the complainant why she was questioning the seven-year-old.

"My babyfather was in an accident and couldn't walk, so I went to take care of him. My daughter told me that she was questioning her, so I approached her and told her not to, but to ask her father, to which she flare up and scrape me in my face, and I bend down and use a piece of iron and hit her back," Hunter said.

Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked the complainant, "is this man worth you being beaten up over by his babymother? You are a pretty girl. I'm sure you can find someone else because he is not leaving his babymother."

Hunter was fined $10,000, or six months in prison.
