Judith McGregor denied bail

Judith McGregor had her request for bail denied after she attempted to represent herself when she appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court Friday

McGregor, who is charged with obtaining credit by fraud, told Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that after spending more than six months in prison, she had learnt her lesson.

"While at Fort Augustus, I've done some self-assessment during my 240 days, and I'll ensure I won't appear before the court again," she said.

To this, Pusey responded, "Why should I give you bail when you absconded bail before?"

McGregor took the opportunity to express her grouses by stating that she felt offended and targeted by the courts.

"Your Honour, I felt crippled when you called me a frequent flyer. I feel like I'm being targeted by the courts. I have served 240 days, and I am respectfully asking for bail," she said.

Her request was denied and she is to return to court for mention.

McGregor is accused of defrauding Red Stripe of more than $13 million and is also charged with absconding bail.

Allegations were that over a period of time, she collected liquor on consignment for her store in New Kingston where it is alleged she sent Red Stripe several cheques, which were later dishonoured.

The Fraud Squad was called, and after being on the run for a few months, she was found, arrested, and charged.
