Elliott recovering well after stroke

Jamaican all-rounder Yannick Elliott says he is feeling much better than he did when he entered hospital earlier this week after suffering a mild stroke.

Elliott, who was down to play against Trinidad and Tobago yesterday in West Indies Cricket Board Super50 action at Sabina Park, was admitted to hospital early Monday morning after complaining of headaches and numbness on the left side of his body.

"I feel much better than when I just came in. I can now walk. It is just that my left hand is still a bit weak," said Elliott.

"I am doing therapy in the mornings and the doctors are working on me, and hopefully sooner or later I will not only be out of the hospital, but playing again."

The 26-year-old Elliott, who is primarily a batsman but also bowls part-time off-spin, has been in and out of the national senior team for the past five years.

He has, however, been showing steady improvements over the past year, and the selectors have been rewarding him likely.

He was picked to be part of Jamaica's Twenty20 squad for the Caribbean Twenty20 earlier this year, and since the start of the regional four-day and Super50 tournaments, have been a permanent fixture in the latter.

His last game in fact was against the Leeward Islands last week at Sabina Park, and with Jamaica becoming reliable on his dual role, he was expected to feature in the match yesterday, which Trinidad won by three wickets.

"It's a bit disappointing that all this is happening to me now, as I was in the Super50 squad, and was looking forward to playing against Trinidad," said Elliott.

"But, you cannot really question God, as the good thing is that I still have life, and it could have been worse."
