Star Tell Me Pastor

Scared for my life

Dear Pastor,

I am a 15-year-old girl who reads your column all the time and thinks you are doing a great job. Two summers ago I was raped by a family friend, but I didn't tell anyone until last year. I was embarrassed.

When I told my mother, she got very angry. She told my father to carry me to the police station to make a formal report. I was horrified because I was not comfortable talking to anyone about the matter. My rapist was locked up and when I had to verify that he was the one who raped me, I couldn't face him. His family has threatened my life on numerous occasions.

Pastor, I need your advice because I fear this man and see him everywhere I go.

Scared Teen

Dear Scared Teen,

I regret hearing that you were raped. Unfortunately, you kept silent too long. However, I do understand how scared you were to tell anybody about your ordeal.

Don't be intimidated by the threats and condemnations from this man's relatives and perhaps others. Tell your parents about it and report every threat to the police. Your parents should also ask the police to arrange counselling sessions for you because you do need therapy.

I can assure you of my prayers and I trust you will do well in school. May God bless you. If you need further help, do not be afraid to contact me.

Pastor
