The Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division (TCND) is reporting that Compton Gayle of Ballards Valley, St Elizabeth, who was wanted in connection with the seizure of 80 kilograms of cocaine in the United Kingdom (UK) was taken in by his attorney on Tuesday The street value of the cocaine is estimated at £11 million. Gayle was questioned in relation to the seizure and was subsequently charged with possession, dealing, exporting and conspiracy to export cocaine. He and another accused Newton Irwin, who was earlier arrested and charged with similar offences, were remanded in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. They return to court on April 22, 2013. On January 14, 2013, a shipment of what appeared to be tins of carrot juice was intercepted by authorities in the UK. As a result of the find, two men were arrested in the UK. Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of Irwin in Jamaica and a manhunt launched for Gayle. |
