Man freed of forgery charge

Trevor Morgan was admonished and discharged when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Morgan, who was originally charged with obtaining forged documents, pleaded guilty to absconding bail on October 2.

Morgan told the court, "I didn't come to court because I didn't have the money to pay, and I am very sorry about it."

A police officer that spoke on Morgan's behalf told Resident Magistrate Pusey that Morgan, who is of good repute in his community, upon being made aware that a warrant was out for him, turned himself in to the police, paid the outstanding fine and apologised.

Lorraine Brown, 43, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud and making false declaration when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The matter which has been in the courts since 2003, states that Brown who was 33 at the time, gave her son's birth certificate to her sister, so that the sister could use the document in an attempt to take her child overseas.

Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey fined Brown $40,000 for the false declaration offence, and $50,000 for the conspiracy to defraud.
