Robber stabs baby 9 times - Mom grieves for dead child
Leighton Levy, Star Writer

Letoya Morgan, a 30-year-old Jamaican mother, is a distraught and confused woman today foll-owing a horrific incident on Tuesday night when her two-month-old son, Mark Reid, was brutally stabbed to death by a man who invaded her house in the middle of the night.

Morgan, who is from Mandeville, has been living in St Maarten for the past 15 years.

The suspect in the case, Dalton LeBlanc, has been taken into custody. That, however, has brought little ease to the pain being suffered by Morgan, who suffers from hypertension and has been having a pain in her neck because of a pulsing vein since that horrible night when her precious child was snatched from his bed and senselessly slaughtered.

"I am in my house and trouble come find me," she tells THE WEEKEND STAR. "I wake up in the morning, and I am looking for my baby, no baby."

She reveals that just yesterday she went to see a friend and heard a baby's cry and began thinking it was hers."I had forgotten that my baby died," she said, the anguish clearly evident as she began to recall the night that she will never forget.

Morgan, who lives in Middle Region on the Dutch Caribbean island, said she went to bed about 7 p.m. She said the baby was in the bed with her. She was awakened by a noise hours later. Startled, she realised that her boyfriend, the child's father, had left for work. She then heard a bang and realised that someone was in the house with her.

She quietly walked to the front of her house when she saw someone dive into a couch in her living room. Terrified, she ran to the bathroom and hid behind the bathroom door. After a while she came from behind the door to see the door to her house wide open. She ran upstairs to where the landlord lived and alerted her that someone was inside the house.

Her landlord, whom she refers to as Ms Elaine, called the police. It was then that she discovered that her baby was not on the bed. "I realised then that the boy killed my baby. He used my knife to kill my baby," she moaned. "The police are even saying that they might have to have a closed casket so you can imagine that him damage the baby bad."

Some reports said the child was stabbed as many as nine times. The child's body was found on the main road nearby.

What has also hurt, she says, are the rumours that people have been spreading about her since the incident. One of those rumours, she says, suggests that LeBlanc is the father of her child. She insists that she doesn't know him and neither does her boyfriend, even though both men work at the same place - Sherriff Security. "I am in grief and people talking stupidness," she said.

Media reports said that LeBlanc was involved in a motor-vehicle accident on the main road near where Morgan lives.
