Parents, teachers shocked as ... 13-Y-O BEATS DAD AT SCHOOL
David Dunkley, News Coordinator

Parents, teachers and students were left in shock recently when a 13-year-old boy unbelievably attacked and beat his father at the Hatfield Primary and Junior High School in Manchester.

The high drama unfolded at Consultation Day at the school, during which students' report cards were issued and teachers gave insights into their performances, THE WEEKEND STAR learnt.

Information reaching this newspaper is that the Grade 7 boy and his father were inside the school's auditorium talking to his teacher, who painted a not so great view of the student and his report card. The disappointed father expressed his dissatisfaction to his son, and promised to 'fix his business' when they got home.

It is reported, however, that the boy, in no uncertain manner, told his dad that he could not do that and then all hell broke loose.

"The father box di boy and di boy rush him, and start put some thump pon him," one of the many shocked parents who witnessed the debacle told THE WEEKEND STAR. "A some teachers did have to go pull him weh, else him woulda sure knock him out."

But this was just the tip of the iceberg, the parent said. "When dem let him go now and check say it done, the boy grab up a chair and start use it and beat the father, knock him down a ground," the parent said, obviously still reeling from the effects of what she witnessed.

Teachers again pulled away the youngster, apparently saving the father from serious injuries but more was to come. Other parents said one set of teachers were attempting to get the student out the auditorium via one door and the father through another. But in the obvious confusion, the parents said both father and son ended up exiting through the same door.

"The boy bruk weh and hold the father again, and start feed him some more thumps," a parent said. "Oh God, mi did sorry fi him."

Eventually, both were taken to an office where they were apparently counselled and the father owned up to causing the predicament, admitting he should not have hit his son. "The teacher them give him wrong and tell him that if him never box the boy, that wouldn't have happened," a parent added.

Shock later turned to awe, however, as in less than an hour, the boy and his father were seen leaving the school premises together, talking as if nothing had happened.

When contacted by THE WEEKEND STAR, the Mandeville police admitted hearing about the incident, but said no official report was made to them, and efforts to get a comment from school officials proved futile. One teacher declined to give further information on the matter. "It was a personal matter that has been dealt with, no need to get involved," the educator said.
