National Overseer Bishop Winston Leith (right) presenting cheque to chairman Randy Finikin (left) and Desmond Whitely, home supervisor. - Contributed The Sunbeam Boy's Home, which is home to approximately 40 males of varying ages, received a much-needed financial contribution from the Church of God of Prophecy in Jamaica recently. Bishop Winston Leith, national overseer of the church, handed over a $100,000 cheque to the Chairman of the Home, Randy Finikin, and Desmond Whitely, home director, in a small ceremony recently. In a brief address, Bishop Leith spoke to the importance of equipping our young men so that they will be better able to take their rightful place in the society. He encouraged the boys living at the facility to "become successful men, leaders and fathers of the future". In expressing his appreciation, Finikin opined that "the institution is most grateful for this contribution because we were just about to terminate the services of the (English) Language teacher due to lack of resources". He said the donation is more than a timely gesture and that he is hoping that it will open the door for other stakeholders to come on board to assist. The donation was raised as part of a fund-raising effort by a group of young people called Team Excellence, under the guidance of one of the Church's public relations directors, Sharon Golding. Sunbeam was established in 1976 by Reverend Cedrick Lue to provide assistance to children who have been abused or abandoned. The home is located at Gutters in St Catherine. |
