An unidentified man believed to be about 45 years old drowned in the Kaiser river in Alligator Pond, Manchester, yesterday.

Reports from the Alligator Pond police are that about 11:35 a.m., the quadragenarian was seen enquiring about the depth of the river.

His body was subsequently found by a volunteer lifeguard who summoned the police. The scene was processed and the body removed to hospital, where death was confirmed.

The body is of slim build, about 168 centimetres (5 feet 6 inches) tall and was clad in a blue and brown shorts.

Investigations continue.
