The court was told that Pauline Cleghorn and the complainant, who are currently in a relationship with the same man, were engaged in an altercation, which resulted in the accused biting the complainant on her arm. According to the accused, the complainant has been interfering in her relationship for some three years. She told the court "she has been taunting me, writing on my Facebook wall, texting me saying, 'old gyal gwaan home a my time now', just pure disrespect". Cleghorn refuted these claims. According to the accused, although unmarried she and the man at the centre of the squabble have been in a relationship for some 11 years and she also told the court she has a child for him. The complainant, however, according to Cleghorn, has been in a relationship with the same man for some three years. Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked both women: "is this man worth you going to prison for? I'd like to meet him, he must be a special man." Cleghorn was ordered to pay a fine $10,000 or spend six months in prison. |
