After rumours of cheating wife ... Pastor calls cops on church members - Congregation warned about defamation

André Williams, STAR Writer

Church members of an Apostolic Church in Clarendon are angry with a pastor after the clergyman allegedly invited the police into their service to caution members over infidelity remarks made about his wife.

Information reaching THE STAR is that Sunday service at the church came to an abrupt end recently when the pastor and his wife, who is accused of cheating, brought a police team in the church to speak with the congregation.

Our news team understands that this did not go down well with the church members.

THE STAR gathered that the police spoke to the members of the church about matters surrounding libel and slander. The police officer then allegedly asked that everyone form a circle so that the pastor himself could say a word of prayer.

According to a member of the congregation, all hell broke loose after the prayer.

The eyewitness said, "Pandemonium broke out after the prayers when members of the church told the police that the rumours never started in the church and it was all over on the streets from the mouths of sinners and Christians alike, and some had even seen with their own eyes."

THE STAR understands that the police subsequently tried without much success to restore calm and order inside the church.

A member of the church told THE STAR, "The congregation was angry at the pastor and blamed him for bringing the police in the church instead of having a meeting with the officers of the church first, since it was not the first he was hearing, as some members had already told him what they were hearing."

The church member continued, "People were just upset at the presence of the police in the church since they did not come to attend the service and no one was threatened in any way."

THE STAR understands that members are still disgruntled, as the situation seems set to divide the church.

Other members told our news team that he could never be their pastor again, while others argued that he should step down and sort out himself and his wife before preaching again.

Some were also adamant that he should offer the entire congregation an apology.
