Title holders Jamaica conjured up a strong all-round effort to easily trounce Windward Islands by 78 runs and extend their unbeaten start to the Super50 Championship here yesterday.

They bounced back from losing a wicket without a run on the board to post 229 for nine from their 50 overs, after they were sent in at the National Stadium.

Danza Hyatt stroked an unbeaten 59, opener Nkrumah Bonner got 39 while Carlton Baugh carved out brisk unbeaten 37 at the death.

Fast bowler Nelon Pascal finished with three for 57.

In reply, the Windwards suffered a meltdown to be bundled out for 151 off their 38.4 overs, with captain Liam Sebastien top scoring with 37.

Leg-spinner Odean Brown captured three for 19 while left-arm spinner Nikita Miller (2-23), seamer David Bernard Jr (2-26) and pacer Andrew Richardson (2-34) all finished with two wickets apiece.

The victory was the third straight for Jamaica following wins over Barbados and Combined Campuses and Colleges.

However, they were forced to battle after losing Simon Jackson without scoring to the third ball of the day when the left-hander drove Pascal to Keddy Lesporis at short cover.

Hyatt and Bonner then put on 88 for the second wicket to repair the damage, with Hyatt facing 116 balls and striking five fours and a six, and Bonner counting four boundaries and a six off 61 deliveries.

When Bonner edged behind looking to run a ball from left-arm spinner Alston Bobb to third man, Lambert joined Hyatt to add a further 44.

However, once Hyatt holed out to Garey Mathurin at deep mid-wicket off Sebastien's off-spin, Jamaica went into decline as four wickets fell for 24 runs.

The visitors then needed the enterprise of Baugh and Andre Russell (22) in a 40-run, seventh wicket stand to get up to their eventual score.

Baugh struck two fours and a six off just 42 deliveries while Russell gathered runs busily in his 24-ball knock.

In reply, the Windwards slumped to 22 for three in the fifth over, and never recovered thereafter. Richardson bowled Johnson Charles in the opening over for two with two on the board before Russell had the prolific Devon Smith caught at cover without scoring with no runs added.

Richardson struck again to remove Lesporis to a catch at slip for eight before Andre Fletcher (21) and Miles Bascombe (26) put on 44 for the fourth wicket.

Both fell within six runs of each other to leave the Windwards on 72 for five and only Sebastien, with four boundaries in his 63-ball knock, showed any resistance thereafter.
