Man arrested after drawn into fight

A man who was allegedly drawn into a fight between two sisters, resulting in his being arrested and charged with wounding, was fined in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court Friday.

Andre Campbell entered a guilty plea and offered an explanation for his action.

Campbell told the court he went to visit the complainant's sister and, while they were at the house, a fight developed between the sisters.

The court heard that, during the fight, a glass bottle was thrown and it almost hit Campbell's son.

Campbell said that was when he got involved and pushed the complainant into a wardrobe and she was injured.

The complainant, however, told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that Campbell was lying.

She said, "Your Honour, him grab me by mi hair and punch me in my face and then push me into the glass and it damage my face."

RM Pusey told the accused, "I understand you got into a rage after the bottle almost hit your son, but that is not the way to go ... you said you didn't chop her in her forehead, but it was the push that you gave her which caused the injury ..."

Campbell was then fined $5,000 or six months' imprisonment. A fingerprint order was also made.
