Harbour View could extend their lead atop the Red Stripe Premier League standing to 14 points if they secure a win over fourth-place Boys' Town when the teams meet tonight at the Harbour View Mini-Stadium with match time set for 9:15. The Stars of the East's closest pursuers Portmore United surrendered an early lead to end 1-1 with Montego Bay United at the Montego Bay Sports Complex. Sueala McCalla gave Portmore a 10th-minute lead, but Fabian McCarthy pulled Montego Bay level in the 49th minute. The result moved Portmore to 47 points, as they sit second in the 12-team standing, while Montego Bay United, which has now gone five games without a win, are sixth on 40 points. Boys' Town (44) slipped to fourth on goal difference after Waterhouse (44) pulled level with them on points following a 0-0 draw with Sporting Central Academy at Brancourt. Sporting Central, now on 33 points, remain ninth courtesy of a superior goal difference over 10th-place Humble Lions. The Geoffrey Maxwell-coached Humble Lions were held to a 1-1 draw by cellar-dwellers Savannah at the Frome Sports Complex. Jermaine Christian gave the Lions the lead in the 18th minute, but Omar Stewart earned Savannah only their 18th point of the season with a 31st-minute strike. breathing space Rafiek Thomas' first goal since rejoining Tivoli Gardens in the January transfer window gave them some breathing space, as they clipped Highgate United 1-0 at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex. The victory, which was only Tivoli's second in 12 games, propelled them one place up the standing to seventh with 36 points the same as eighth-place Cavalier over who they have a superior goal difference. Highgate, trying to escape the jaws of relegation for a second season, remain 11th on 25 points. Cavalier's winless streak was extended to seven games, but they avoid a third consecutive defeat after playing to a 1-1 draw with fifth-place Arnett Gardens (42) at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex. Devon Schaffe scored for Cavalier in the 66th minute before Kameel Hyde responded for Arnett in the 74th minute. |
