In a time when many school students are known for their misbehaviour, it is good to learn of those whose demeanour and actions serve to promote peace.

This is exactly what THE STAR Life and Times gathered from a recent interview with twins, Allayah and Allaphyah Henry. Both girls are 11-year-old grade five students of Old Harbour Primary School in St Catherine.

The duo who are Jehovah Witnesses, revealed to THE STAR that as far as is possible, they try to portray a calm, peaceful attitude towards their classmates. They say whenever situations with their classmates threaten to escalate into fights, they either ignore their would-be opponents or calmly walk away.

Allayah, the first-born, who likes mathematics, wants to become a paediatrician when she grows up. Her sister, Allaphyah likes language arts and has her sights set on becoming a teacher.

Similarities and differences

Both girls live in Marlie Acres near Old Harbour in the parish with their mother, Vinnette Foga, and a brother and sister. Their mother reported that they get into squabbles sometimes but noted that they are very helpful with household chores.

Allayah likes to eat and listed her favourite food as chicken and rice. She likes to read the book Little Red Riding Hood and she also enjoys singing, playing card games and doing school projects.

Her sister, on the other hand, likes apples, dancing and singing, school homework, and loves reading the book Beauty and the Beast.

Allaphyah listed the morning shift as her favourite, while for her sister, it is the afternoon shift.

The quiet twins shared their view on how Jamaica could become a better place to live. They said that if the crime and violence stop, Jamaica will be a better place.
