Harlem Shake with a twist of LIME

Harlem Shake, the latest viral craze, has been creating much buzz. In Jamaica, we too have caught the fever.

Telecoms giant LIME Jamaica, on Monday (February 18), decided to shoot its version of the new Internet meme, an idea proported and brought to life by the telecommunication's marketing department. The video was shot at the company's flagship store located on Half-Way Tree Road.

The Harlem Shake phenomenon, which features a group of persons just letting go to the electronic musician Baauer's Harlem Shake, was replicated by LIME and staff members from all tiers of the organisation. The Harlem Shake, which took over from PSY's Gangnam Style craze, earlier this month, is a half-minute-long video posted on Youtube, shot in an everyday setting starting off with an odd character, usually in a mask or helmet, doing some crazy moves while everyone else continues to mind their business. The high point of the video follows as the baseline drops and the entire setting becomes engulfed by the Harlem Shake fever of everyone around.

over 30,000 views

The local video, which was filmed by LIME's Oraine Godfrey, regional manager for internal communications, was posted on YouTube last Monday night and received over 30,000 views in two days. The video, which features the company's managing director for Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, Garry Sinclair, cruising in the store on a bicycle, has been on everyone's lips.

"We are always looking for an exciting activity for our staff, so we decided to do the Harlem Shake video to create excitement amongst our staff, with the added benefit of having our managing director participate," stated Carlo Redwood, head of marketing, LIME Jamaica.

The communications company's video has become the talk of social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, receiving many positive comments by viewers who found the 30-second video to be a good 'lol' moment.

Also to be spotted in LIME's Harlem Shake video are Carlo Redwood - head of marketing, Kim Lee - senior marketing Manager, Elon Parkinson - corporate communications manager, Stephen Miller - sponsorship manager, Nathaniel Palmer - events manger, Dwight Williams - product manager, Steffan Cooke, Andrew Williams, Craig Landells, Vaun Johnson, Josephine Brown, Cedric Brown, Stephanie Davis, Cheryl West, Collin Vassell, Chelsea Scott, Daniesha Reynolds, Julius Edwards and the masked lady who started the raving, customer service representative, Christine Cain.
